In sorbet shades from tender blues, dainty violets and pretty peaches, the SS20 runways were awash with pretty muted tones — and for Ramadan this year, our local designers have followed suit.

SHOP POWER PASTELS

The best thing about the light-tone trend this summer is that you don’t have to pick just one. Play with different shades of powder blues, pistachio greens, soft lemons and pale pinks, seeking out your favourite. Ramadan collections get a shot of sugar-free sophistication this season thanks to a postmodern, head-to-tonal interpretation of the modest pastel palette.

Violet Views

Jacquemus’ Provence lavender fields set the powdery-pastel purple tone for the season, sweeping us all off our feet at one of the most picturesque and original runways we’ve ever seen. Lilac continued to reign supreme on the SS20 catwalks, from oversized suits spotted in New York to feathered mini-dresses at Valentino and Prada’s showstopping two-toned purple look. The violet tone trickled down onto abayas giving a refreshing update to the usual black for summer, from Mounay’s linen abaya to Dima Aya’s metallic embellished set, this pale purple hue is the new grown-up millennial pink of the season.

Into The Blue

Baby blue — the timeless innocent shade we all grew to love in the ’90s — has had a stylish new guise for SS20. The sweet shade was seen at Jonathan Simkhai in pleated summer dresses and matching flat sandals, while Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga showed a more grown-up approach to the sugary shade, incorporating subtle prints and textures into his sky-blue show. VARQ’s sequined, tiered soft-blue Ramadan dresses show us how to wear the striking hue for evenings, and Amal Al Raisi’s baby blue kaftans are perfect for daytime lounging.
